The original Circuit was released in 2015 and it was based on Novation's long-established virtual-analog synthesis prowess teamed with a user-friendly step-sequencing workflow. The groovebox concept stuck and Novation was more than happy to tag its Circuit instruments as such. However, at its heart was an amazing idea - package everything that you need to ensure electronic music into a single box. It had a ton of hype on release but it eventually dissipated as analog synths crept back into vogue. The term was first coined back in 1996 with the release of Roland MC-303, an all-in-one instrument that managed to combine sequencing with a mixture of digital synth sounds, effects, and drum samples. Grooveboxes have often had divided opinions.
